Frozen yogurt retailer to open three stores; Meet D.C. entrepreneurs at Franchise Recruitment Seminars

DALLAS - (June 30, 2009) - Red Mango, one of the most popular and fastest-growing retailers of authentic nonfat frozen yogurt, will soon open its first three stores in the Washington, D.C. area thanks to franchise agreements with former teacher Elizabeth Winterhalter and restaurant entrepreneur Jeff Qiu.

  • Winterhalter attended a Red Mango franchise event in New York after her teaching job was reduced to part time and her husband was laid off after 35 years. The couple decided to relocate to D.C. and signed a franchise agreement to open a Red Mango in Arlington, Va. Winterhalter and her husband both plan to work in the store full time. "I taught nutrition for years and think Red Mango is the perfect example of what America needs to eat, and I feel that Red Mango will be an extension of my teaching," said Winterhalter.
  • Qiu currently owns several Asian Fusion restaurants in the Tri-State region and decided to expand his investment to include a frozen yogurt concept. Qiu plans to open one store in Georgetown, and a second in downtown Washington, D.C. "The Red Mango business model is ideal because the training is relatively simple," said Qiu. "Plus the concept is stylish, on trend and I love the product."

Red Mango plans to award more franchise agreements for the area and will hold two Washington, D.C. Franchise Recruitment Seminars on July 15 at the Hilton Alexandria, Old Town. Recent events in Dallas and New York attracted more than 350 business entrepreneurs and potential franchisees interested in learning about the Red Mango opportunity.

The D.C. seminars will provide an outlet to meet face-to-face with Red Mango executives through a presentation, product tasting and question/answer period. Red Mango has grown from zero to more than 50 stores in less than two years and believes the Baltimore-Washington Corridor, Charlottesville, Richmond, and Norfolk/Virginia Beach can support many additional locations.

Red Mango recently unveiled its "Red's Real Deal" program which states that Red Mango will purchase a new franchisee's store for up to $275,000 and take over the franchised location if the franchisee is not satisfied with the investment within the first six months of opening.
